Acoustic panels are the kind of material you only really notice once you’ve experienced a space without them. They soften sharp edges, calm the acoustics, and add a layer of warmth that makes a room feel settled. In high end residential design, they’re becoming a quiet essential.

For the Bunbury Penthouse, we partnered with Glosswood to bring depth, texture and acoustic comfort to a home defined by precision. Designed by Mata Design Studio and brought to life by our team at Mayfair, this project uses timber acoustic panels across key ceiling areas to enhance the way each space sounds, feels and flows.

What Are Acoustic Panels?

Acoustic panels are architectural elements designed to absorb and diffuse sound, improving the acoustic comfort of a space.

In high-end residential design, they’re used to soften echo, refine clarity, and bring a sense of calm to open-plan living. When they’re beautifully detailed and thoughtfully specified, they do more than control sound. They become part of the architecture itself, shaping mood, warmth, and atmosphere.

Why Glosswood was chosen

Choosing acoustic panelling is as much about performance as it is about aesthetics. Glosswood brought both to the Bunbury Penthouse.

Glosswood are leaders in pre-finished timber linings, known for their technical precision, natural timber finishes, and consistent quality. Their acoustic range pairs architectural detail with real acoustic performance, designed to actively absorb and diffuse sound rather than simply soften it.

For the Bunbury Penthouse, their White Oak acoustic panel was the perfect match.
A soft, light-toned timber with subtle blonde grain variation, White Oak adds clarity and luminosity to an interior. As the lightest tone in the matte collection, it lifts the entire space and enhances the perception of volume.

Pair that with lightweight construction, streamlined installation, and long-term durability, and the choice became obvious. Glosswood offered the exact balance of beauty, performance, and practicality needed for a home of this calibre.

How Acoustic Paneling Was Integrated Into the Bunbury Penthouse

The Bunbury Penthouse is defined by its clean lines, refined textures, and elevated sense of calm. Acoustic paneling became a central architectural element across the kitchen, living, and dining spaces.

Mata Design Studio curated a palette that aligned materiality with mood. Their intent was to unify the open-plan layout through consistent finishes and fine detail. The White Oak panels from Glosswood achieve exactly that. They create flow between zones, bring warmth to the ceiling plane, and subtly refine the acoustics for both everyday living and entertaining.

Installed with precision, the panels reinforce the home’s architectural rhythm. Their tonal softness works beautifully with the wider palette of stone, timber, and soft furnishings, creating a cohesive sense of quality throughout.

Photography by Ross Wallace Creative and Ryan Murphy captures this with detail and clarity, showing how the ceiling becomes a defining feature without overwhelming the space.
